Seminole County is right across the St. Johns River from our DeBary office. For a lot of Sanford, Lake Mary and Oviedo households it’s a short drive up I-4 or 17-92, so many Seminole clients choose to meet in person.
We know FRS. We help you understand DROP, check your forms and dates before anything is filed, and connect you with a licensed financial professional when you need one. We can’t promise any outcome, but we can help make sure nothing gets missed.

These Seminole County employers appear on the FRS list of participating employers for 2026-27.1 If yours is on it, your job is likely FRS-covered, but always confirm your plan in FRS Online.

- Seminole County Board of County Commissioners, plus the Clerk of Circuit Court, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector
- Seminole County Sheriff’s Office
- City of Sanford, listed by FRS as a participating city

State agency employees working in the county (for example, Department of Corrections, FDOT, Department of Health and DCF) are FRS members too.1
A note for Seminole city employees
If you’ve worked for more than one Seminole employer, your service history can be spread across different plans. Sorting that out before you pick a DROP date matters.
School district and sheriff’s office employees make up most of the Seminole families we talk with. Deputies often have Special Risk service, which has its own normal retirement rules, so your DROP window may open earlier than a coworker’s in a Regular Class job.
The deadlines that can’t be undone
- Your benefit payment option becomes permanent once your first payment is cashed or credited to DROP.4
- After your DROP end date, you can’t work for any FRS employer for six calendar months, paid or unpaid. Doing so can void your retirement.2
- FRS must receive your DROP payout form (DP-PAYT) within 60 days of termination, or the balance is paid as a lump sum with 20% withheld.3

Frequently asked questions
I worked for Altamonte Springs years ago and now work for Seminole County Schools. Does my old service count?
It might. It depends on whether that earlier job was FRS-covered. Your FRS Online service history shows what FRS has on record. We’ll look at it with you and point out anything to ask the Division of Retirement about.
How far is your office from Sanford?
Our DeBary office is just north of Sanford across the St. Johns River, usually about a 15-minute drive.
What happens if I miss the DROP payout deadline?
If FRS doesn’t receive Form DP-PAYT within 60 days of your DROP termination date, it is required by law to pay your balance as a lump sum with 20% federal tax withheld.3
