Brevard County stretches 70 miles along the Space Coast, and its FRS employers include one of Florida’s larger school districts, county offices, the sheriff and a long list of cities. We help Brevard families from Titusville to Palm Bay by phone and Zoom, and in person at our DeBary office.
We know FRS. We help you understand DROP, check your forms and dates before anything is filed, and connect you with a licensed financial professional when you need one. We can’t promise any outcome, but we can help make sure nothing gets missed.
FRS employers in Brevard County
These Brevard County employers appear on the FRS list of participating employers for 2026-27.1 If yours is on it, your job is likely FRS-covered, but always confirm your plan in FRS Online.
- Brevard County School Board (Brevard Public Schools)
- Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, plus the Clerk of Circuit Court, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector
- Brevard County Sheriff’s Office
- Cities and towns: Melbourne (police, elected officials and general employees), Cocoa and West Melbourne (general employees), Indian Harbour Beach (fire and general), Palm Bay (elected officials only), the Town of Melbourne Beach and the Town of Malabar
- Eastern Florida State College
- Sebastian Inlet District, Merritt Island Public Library Tax District, Indian River Lagoon Council and Space Coast TPO
State agency employees working in the county (for example, Department of Corrections, FDOT, Department of Health and DCF) are FRS members too.1
Brevard city coverage varies by job
FRS coverage in Brevard’s cities depends on your job. Palm Bay, for example, is listed only for elected officials, and Indian Harbour Beach for fire and general staff. A Palm Bay officer and a Melbourne officer may be in completely different plans. The Canaveral Port Authority is on FRS’s non-participating list.
For Brevard Public Schools staff, the big questions are usually the K-12 DROP extension and lining up a DROP end date with the last day of a school year.
The deadlines that can’t be undone
- Your benefit payment option becomes permanent once your first payment is cashed or credited to DROP.4
- After your DROP end date, you can’t work for any FRS employer for six calendar months, paid or unpaid. Doing so can void your retirement.2
- FRS must receive your DROP payout form (DP-PAYT) within 60 days of termination, or the balance is paid as a lump sum with 20% withheld.3

Frequently asked questions
I work for the City of Palm Bay. Am I in FRS?
Probably not, unless you’re an elected official. FRS lists Palm Bay as participating only for its elected officials, so most city staff are in a city plan. If you have FRS service from another job, we can help with that part.
Is it worth meeting by Zoom instead of driving?
For most Brevard clients, yes. We can look at your FRS statement and forms together on screen.
What happens if I miss the DROP payout deadline?
If FRS doesn’t receive Form DP-PAYT within 60 days of your DROP termination date, it is required by law to pay your balance as a lump sum with 20% federal tax withheld.3
